The accessories market is booming. Retailers reported steep rises in bag sales and growing interest in investment bags from heritage brands—an accessory trend influenced by the rise of the resale and secondary markets, and one we see continuing as one of Spring 2022 Accessory Trends. Back in February, Vogue reported that “what is now a $28 billion secondhand-apparel market will more than double to an astonishing $64 billion by 2024.”
What did that mean for the Spring / Summer 2022 accessory trends on the runways? The current stability of the accessories market is allowing for designers to get weird with collections or elements of them. Loewe heels were accented with reproductions of household items like candles, soap bars, and cracked eggs. Some designers experimented with 3-D printing, like Balenciaga and Givenchy, and new fabrications like Mylo mushroom leather and biodegradable boots at Stella McCartney and Maison Margiela kept otherwise minimal silhouettes interesting.
Heritage brands continue to produce signature styles and introduce new versions-of to freshen them up, from Chanel’s 2.55 and Fendi’s Baguette to Prada’s newly slimmed-down version of their best-selling Galleria tote. In footwear, walkable lug-soled boots continue to dominate, appearing at Alexander McQueen, Coach, and Eckhaus Latta.

Sustainable Fashion continues to be a trend that many designers are implementing (or working on implementing) into their collections. Stella McCartney updated her Frayme bag in Mylo Mushroom leather, and both Maison Margiela and Loewe developed biodegradable sneakers, to name a few.

Along with sustainable materials, designers are also considering other ways of implementing sustainabilityWithin a business context, sustainability refers to business... More into their collections in other ways, like reusable water bottle bags.
