Tega Akinola, a young 22 year old designer from the UK, is turning thrifted socks and sweaters into chic upcycled accessories, one of our favorite designers in sustainable fashion. During lockdown, many people were inspired to create – Tega Akinola being one of them, and we are so happy she did!
Akinola’s creative accessories began with a white heel and a USB strap she came across while cleaning. She posted the look on Instagram, followed by a shoe using scraps from Nike socks, and then a bag created from Patagonia fleece. Her followers loved them, and her success took off from there. Akinola plans to start taking custom orders this year.
"Upcycling has pretty much always been a necessity for me, particularly when I was younger, and before I knew of the actual term"
We especially love the craftsmanship, thoughtfulness, and unexpected elements in each of Akinola’s designs. Her color and material choices are spot on, too. We’re excited to see Tega Akinola’s collection grow in 2022!
